INGREDIENT INTELLIGENCE

Why layering the YCODE Advanced Routine changes the result

Repeated ingredients are not simply delivered twice. They arrive in different textures, across different areas and within different supporting systems.

Chlorella vulgaris, the microalga carried in both the face serum and the moisturiser

A routine should not repeat the same product under three names. It should place complementary formulas in an order that changes what the complete system can do.

Within the Advanced Routine, some ingredient families appear more than once. The interesting part is not that there is more of them. It is that the same support arrives through different vehicles.

One organism, two formulas

Chlorella microalgae appears in Hydrating Face Serum and Mattifying Moisturiser.

In the serum, it sits within a water-light base that absorbs quickly. In the moisturiser, it is held within a richer emulsion that remains closer to the surface and supports retention.

The organism is the same. The formulation context changes the job around it.

This is central to biologically intelligent hydration. The Chlorella system responds to the condition of the skin, supplying vitamins, minerals and peptides according to its changing needs. Delivering it through two complementary textures gives that adaptive support two places within the routine.

Water binding across two layers

Hyaluronic acid appears in both face products. It binds water at the surface and supports a smoother, fuller appearance.

The serum begins this water-binding step without a heavy film. The moisturiser repeats the support while adding emollients and a more protective structure above it.

Water added without retention can disappear quickly. Retention without enough water beneath it has less to hold. The two formulas answer both parts.

Microbiome support at every step

Prebiotic ingredients run across the routine.

The skin microbiome is a living surface ecosystem involved in the conditions around barrier function, comfort and balance. Prebiotics do not sterilise or replace it. They support an environment in which beneficial organisms can thrive.

Repeating this support across the face, neck and eye area makes it part of the system rather than an isolated feature.

What the finished products did together

The Hydrating Face Serum and Mattifying Moisturiser were assessed together as finished products on 50 men. After four weeks:

  • 94% said their skin felt hydrated and comfortable throughout the day
  • 92% recognised the combined action of deep hydration and moisturisation
  • 90% said their skin stayed moisturised all day
  • 88% said their moisture barrier felt stronger
  • 86% said the two products helped control excess oil throughout the day
  • 92% said stubble or beard felt less itchy

These findings describe the face system. The eye serum adds a separate body of ingredient-level evidence for the specialised eye area.

Why more is not the point

Effective formulation is not an ingredient volume contest. More of the wrong material, or the right material in the wrong texture, does not automatically improve a result.

The relevant questions are where an ingredient arrives, what surrounds it, what job that formula owns and whether the complete routine remains pleasant enough to use consistently.

Next, read Why none of the three Advanced Routine steps is redundant.

One formula begins the work. Another changes the conditions around it. The third addresses tissue with a different set of needs. That is what makes three steps a system.

Here is to two minutes well spent.

Is layering simply a way to use more product?
No. Each texture has a different role. The serum delivers a light water-based system, while the moisturiser adds retention, barrier support and finish.
Why is Chlorella in both face products?
It allows the adaptive microalgae system to arrive in two different formulation environments: first in a water-light serum, then in a richer moisturising emulsion.
Can I use either face product alone?
Yes. Each performs independently. The combined trial shows what customers reported when the two finished products were used together.
Does the combined face-product trial include the eye serum?
No. The eye serum has its own ingredient-level studies, including instrumental and placebo-controlled assessments.

I started YCODE because most skincare was never designed for men’s skin. What I write here is what the formulators taught me, and what the trials actually found.
