INGREDIENT INTELLIGENCE

What an eye serum does in the first fifteen minutes

Three things happen in the first quarter of an hour, and you can watch two of them. What each active is, why it was chosen, and why the amount in the tube decides whether any of it matters.

Two things begin changing from the first application. Light-reflecting minerals help the eye area look fresher immediately. Within 15 minutes, wild ginger has its first reported results.

The other actives are working on longer timelines. This is what has happened so far, and what to look for before you have finished getting dressed.

What to look for now

Look in natural daylight. A bathroom downlight throws shadow into the hollow beneath the eye, which makes it a poor place to judge.

Look for the eye area appearing fresher and less shadowed. Then take a photograph before you go any further. Improvement arrives gradually and quickly becomes familiar. In a fortnight, the photograph will show you what memory cannot.

Why the eye area looks fresher

A dark circle is partly colour and partly shadow. Light-reflecting minerals sit on the surface and scatter light from the hollow beneath the eye.

They act like privacy glass, reflecting enough light to reduce the appearance of dark circles while allowing enough transparency to keep the result completely natural.

This part of the formula does not have to wait for a biological process, so it contributes from the first application.

The minerals are adapted to different skin tones rather than relying on one universal version. That is why Advanced Eye Serum comes in three formulas under our Melanin Adaptive Technology.

What wild ginger contributes

Wild ginger, Zingiber zerumbet, works on puffiness and how rested the eye area looks.

At 15 minutes, among 111 volunteers with a mean age of 42:5

86%Reported looking less tired
79%Reported an improved eye contour
73%Reported reduced dark circles

In a separate instrumental assessment using SpectraCam imaging, 87% showed reduced under-eye hyperpigmentation.5

By day 15, the participant-reported figures rise to 94%, 89% and 90%. The instrumental measurements of eye-bag volume arrive at one and two months.

The extract is produced using pressurised carbon dioxide. When the extraction is complete, the carbon dioxide returns to gas, leaving the concentrated extract behind.

Why the studied level matters

An ingredient name tells you what a formula contains. Evidence tells you what that ingredient can do at a particular studied level.

That principle shaped the formula. We selected actives with measured outcomes and used their evidence to guide how the serum was built.

It is also why the amount on your fingertip is so small. One grain of rice is enough for both eyes.

What else has started today

Fucoidan begins the deeper work measured at week one. Red algae minerals support smoothness, hydration and the barrier. Pro-vitamin B5 and beetroot extract support hydration and the condition of the skin around them.

Five actives, one application, several timelines.

Why the eye area shows it first

The skin around the eye is among the thinnest on the face.12 Thin skin is translucent skin, so what sits beneath it is never fully hidden.

That is much of the reason the darkness is there at all. Measuring the area directly, researchers found three factors occurring together in people with dark circles: more melanin, more and wider capillaries carrying more blood, and thinner skin over both.4 Clinical reviews add a fourth cause that is pure optics, the shadow cast by the tear trough.3

What happens next

Week one is the next measured checkpoint. Day 15 brings a broader set of visible changes. Hydration and barrier measurements arrive around one month. Three-dimensional eye-bag measurements continue to improve at two months.

Twenty seconds starts the process. Consistency is what lets the whole formula report.

Where the serum fits

Advanced Eye Serum is the final targeted step of the two minutes that count. Apply Hydrating Face Serum first, follow with Mattifying Moisturiser, then use Advanced Eye Serum around the eye area to address dark circles, puffiness and fine lines. Use the same order morning and night.

For the technique rather than the chemistry, read how much to use and where to apply it. For the first measured checkpoint, read the week the deeper work starts. And if you are not sure which of the three formulas is yours, the two-minute skin analysis will tell you.

The hardest stretch is the first fortnight, when you are doing the work and the mirror has not caught up yet. Take the photograph today. It is the only thing that will settle the argument later.

Why can it work immediately and still improve over two months?
Different parts of the formula work in different ways. The minerals change how light leaves the surface immediately. Wild ginger has reported results from 15 minutes. Other changes depend on repeated use and are measured over days or months.
Will the light-reflecting minerals look like make-up?
No. They are designed to reduce the appearance of shadow while remaining natural on the skin, working like privacy glass rather than laying colour over the top. Three Melanin Adaptive formulas help the finish sit comfortably across different skin tones.
What is supercritical carbon dioxide extraction?
Carbon dioxide is placed under pressure until it behaves as both a liquid and a gas. It draws the desired compounds from the plant, then returns to gas and leaves the extract behind.
How long should I give the serum before judging it?
Take a first photograph before use, then compare at 15 days, one month and two months. Those checkpoints reveal different parts of the result.
How much eye serum should I use?
One grain-of-rice-sized amount is enough for both eyes, morning and night. There is very little filler in the formula, so the dose is smaller than most people expect.
