The week the deeper work starts
One week in, the first of the longer-term actives reports. What fucoidan is, where it comes from, and why single-digit numbers at seven days mark the beginning of a longer curve.

At one week, the first placebo-controlled changes are measurable. They come from fucoidan, a marine bioactive taken from brown seaweed.
This is where the journey begins to move from an immediate surface effect to work taking place within the skin.
What to look for now
Look in natural daylight and compare with the photograph you took before the first application.
Your dark circles may appear a little lighter and the eye area may look fresher. The change is early, but it is already measurable against placebo.
Fucoidan, for dark circles and crow's feet
At day seven, characterised fucoidan from Fucus vesiculosus produced:5
These are the first measured movements in a longer curve.
Where it comes from, and why that matters
Fucus vesiculosus is bladderwrack, the brown seaweed found along Atlantic shores. Twice a day, it moves between cold salt water and exposure to sun and wind. Fucoidan is part of how it manages that environment.
The fucoidan used here is characterised. Its molecular weight and sulphation are controlled from batch to batch, giving formulators consistency they can rely on.
That matters because seaweed is not uniform. Its composition can vary by species, season, location and the part of the plant harvested. Research comparing nine fucoidans from nine different brown seaweeds found meaningful differences in activity between sources, while the anti-inflammatory effect held across all of them.1
Provenance is not decoration. It changes what arrives in the formula.
What the laboratory work shows
In cell-culture testing, the same active increased:5
- Collagen I by 485%. The principal structural collagen in skin, the scaffolding that keeps the surface firm.
- HO-1 by 598%. Involved in cellular defence against oxidative stress, the everyday damage from sunlight, pollution and ordinary metabolism.
- SIRT-1 by 44%. Associated with cellular regulation and longevity.
These are laboratory measures rather than changes a person can read directly in a mirror. They help explain the biological activity beneath the visible week-one result.
Fucoidan itself has a substantial research literature well outside cosmetics, covering antioxidant, immunoregulatory and anti-inflammatory activity.2 That matters under the eye specifically, because the lower eyelid drains through two connected lymphatic networks, and surgical work on the area shows that when they are disturbed the result is exactly the swelling you would recognise.3
Why source and specification matter
A marine ingredient is only as useful as the specification behind it. Species, extraction, molecular profile and studied level determine whether two materials carrying the same broad name are actually equivalent.
That is why we talk about the source. It is part of the performance, not a story placed around it afterwards.
What happens next
At 15 days, wild ginger and red algae minerals add larger visible and tactile changes. Skin smoothness and the reported appearance of tiredness, dark circles and eye contour all have new results to share.
Set your expectations against the clock the skin runs on. Tracked with a fluorescent marker in living volunteers, the outer layer takes about twenty days to turn over in young adults, and more than ten days longer in older ones.4 Seven days is a fraction of that, which is why these figures are a beginning.
Keep the application identical: one grain of rice across both eyes, morning and night.
Where the serum fits
Advanced Eye Serum brings five actives together on different clocks. Fucoidan owns the first-week chapter. It does not have to carry the whole formula alone.
For what was happening on day one, read what an eye serum does in the first fifteen minutes. The next checkpoint is set out in what has changed at 15 days. And for the wider argument, marine actives for men covers what the evidence does and does not support.
Single digits at seven days is not a headline, and we could have waited for a better one. It is the honest shape of week one, and it is the point at which the curve starts.

I started YCODE because most skincare was never designed for men’s skin. What I write here is what the formulators taught me, and what the trials actually found.
